Formulas used

All three poly types share the same base structure. What changes is how length and width are adjusted before the calculation:

Pieces/lb = 75000 ÷ Effective Length ÷ Effective Width ÷ Thickness Material price/pc = Polymer price per lb ÷ Pieces/lb Price/dozen = (Material price/pc × 12) + Adhesive cost + Color cost

Single Poly

Effective length = Length + (Adhesive strip width ÷ 2). The adhesive is a physical part of the sheet being weighed, so half its width is added into the length before dividing. Width is used as measured.

Blister Poly

Effective length = Length, exactly as measured. Adhesive is not factored into the material calculation — it's applied and priced separately as a flat per-dozen charge, same as color/print.

Gusset Poly

Effective width = Width + Gusset A + Gusset B. The folded side panels add real material, so both gusset measurements are added directly to the width before dividing. Length is used as measured.

What you need before you start

  • Length and width of the finished bag, in inches
  • Thickness, on your factory's own scale
  • Current polymer price per pound
  • Adhesive strip width (Single only) — or flat adhesive cost per dozen for all types
  • Print/color cost per dozen, if the bag is printed
  • Gusset A and B measurements (Gusset only)

Frequently asked questions

Why does adhesive affect length for Single poly but not Blister?

For Single poly, the adhesive strip is part of the same sheet of material being weighed, so it adds real weight that has to be counted in the length. For Blister poly, the adhesive is applied as a separate step, so it's priced on its own as a flat per-dozen add-on instead of changing the material weight calculation.

What does "thickness" mean in this calculator?

It's a plain numeric thickness value on your own factory's scale — enter whatever number you'd normally use for that field, and the formula stays consistent as long as you use it the same way every time.

Can I use this for order quotes?

Yes — enter your order quantity in pieces or dozens to get a total order price alongside the per-piece and per-dozen figures. Always double check current polymer rates with your supplier before quoting, since they fluctuate.
